Introduction
The South Gate Mosque in Xining was built in 1934 and covers an area of 3100 square meters. It includes a brick and concrete prayer hall, a two-story brick and concrete east room, a two-story north room, a two-story west room, seven water tanks, and a 15-meter-high minaret. Initially, due to the sparse population in the area, the local Hui people had to go to the Dongguan Mosque for prayers, which was very inconvenient. To solve this problem, the local people raised funds to build a three-room adobe structure as a prayer hall in the west room and invited Ma Chengzhang to be the Imam. As the population in the South Gate area increased, the mosque was expanded and gradually grew in size. After the religious reform, it served the Xining Embroidery Factory before being used by the Nansho Jie Primary School in Chengdong District. It wasn't until 1979, when the house was returned to the mosque, that it was expanded and renovated again.
