Junmachang
Located in the southern part of Shandan County, Zhangye region, at the Damaying Grassland in the Qilian Mountains, it is currently the oldest horse farm in the world, the largest in Asia, and the second largest in the world. The Shandan Junmachang has flat terrain, abundant water and grass, with lush green grass in summer and golden fields in winter, making it an ideal place for horses to breed and grow. Since the Western Han Dynasty, based on the local Mongolian horses and introducing various fine horses from the Western Regions, the crossbred Shandan horses have become famous worldwide. This place has thus become a royal horse breeding base for successive dynasties, enduring through the ages. Shandan horses are well-proportioned, sturdy, robust, vigorous, adaptable, and excel in both speed and endurance, making them excellent for carrying, riding, and pulling. Currently, there are more than ten thousand horses.
Biandukou
In the middle section of the Qilian Mountains, there is a peak pass that runs north to south, known as Biandukou, an important and dangerous pass historically referred to as 'Dadoubagu' by ancient people. Biandukou is over 3500 meters above sea level, connecting Ebao Town in Qilian County to the south and Chaomianzhuang in Minle, Gansu to the north. The terrain is perilous and the mountains are steep, making it a strategic military location and an important commercial route since ancient times. The southern route of the ancient Silk Road passed through here from Qinghai into Gansu and then into the Western Regions. Major attractions include Shifo Temple, Heifeng Cave, Niangniang Tomb, and Zhuge Stele.
Located at the northern end of Xianfu North Street in Zhangye City, it was first built in 1984 and covers an area of 299 acres. There are gates at both the north and south ends of the central axis. The south gate is the main entrance, connecting to Xianfu North Street, while the north gate faces Huan Cheng North Road. Inside, the gates are connected by a wide pathway. Along the pathway, there is a shaded wall to the south and an arched bridge to the north, with two lakes on the east and west sides connected under the bridge.
