Introduction
Qinghai Lake, also known as "Kuku-Nor" in Mongolian, meaning "blue sea", is located in the Qinghai Lake Basin. It was formed by the fault subsidence between Datong Mountain in Qilian Mountain Range, Riyue Mountain and the southern mountains of Qinghai. The plateau continental climate has created diverse seasonal landscapes. The Erlangjian Scenic Area on the south side welcomes you to take a boat tour on the lake, while the Bird Island on the west side offers an extraordinary viewing experience with hundreds of thousands of birds from April to June. The east side is mainly for beach scenery and entertainment, with distinctive features such as Riyue Mountain and Daotang River. As for the north side, the Jinshatan and Atomic City scenic spots can share plenty of charming scenery with you. The best time to visit is from July to August, when you can not only enjoy the beauty of blooming rapeseed flowers but also traditional events such as the Qinghai Lake cycling race.
