Introduction

The Xiaqiong Temple, built in 1394, is one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist temples in Qinghai. After studying here for 9 years, the great master Tsongkhapa founded the Gelug sect in Lhasa, making Xiaqiong Temple known as the origin of the Gelug sect. Although Xiaqiong Temple is located in a remote area and has not become the center of the Gelug sect's rule, its influence is still significant. There are few tourists here, and the temple is peaceful and serene, with no admission fee. Built on a cliff, Xiaqiong Temple overlooks the Yellow River's nine curves and eighteen bends and is said to contain relics. There are also several living Buddhas living nearby.
