Introduction
Mt. Mingtang, located in Yuexi County, Anhui Province, is part of the Dabie Mountain range and is 42 kilometers away from the county seat. It is formed by several pointed mountain ranges and has three peaks, with the main peak reaching an elevation of 1563 meters. It is considered to be the connecting point between the ancient kingdoms of Wu and Chu. Legend has it that 2100 years ago, Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty, Liu Che, established a sacrificial altar called "Mingtang" on this mountain during the fengshan ceremony for Mt. Hengshan in the south, hence its name. Because of its beautiful and graceful mountain shape, which echoes the majestic and towering Mt. Hengshan, and because both mountains are located in Anhui, only a hundred miles apart, the saying "the two mountains grow long, and they stand each other as a couple" emerged, with Mt. Hengshan being called "the male Anhui mountain" and Mt. Mingtang "the female Anhui mountain". Additionally, because the main peak of Mt. Mingtang has a natural rooster pattern on its rock wall and looks like a rooster comb when viewed from the north, it is also known as "Jigong Mountain".
