Chongshan Temple is located on Diliang Public Street, Yingze District, Taiyuan City, and was established in the Tang Dynasty. It was initially called Baima Temple, then renamed as Yanshou Temple and Zongshan Temple, and was renamed as Chongshan Temple in the Ming Dynasty. In the fourteenth year of the Hongwu period (1381), Zhu Yuanzhang's third son, Prince Jinkang, expanded the temple. Before the Ming Dynasty, Chongshan Temple was only a small temple. Legend has it that it was the palace where Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty toured Taiyuan, or the place where Empress Wu Zetian became a nun when she was young.
