Introduction
The hydraulic project began construction in March 1958 and was completed in 1962 after four years. It is located in Xigangnan Village, Pingshan County, Hebei Province. The project consists of one main dam, 17 auxiliary dams, normal spillway, additional spillway, emergency spillway, discharge tunnel, water transfer tunnel, power station, and other buildings. Its purpose is to achieve comprehensive utilization such as flood control and irrigation, power generation, and fish farming in the reservoir area. The reservoir is located in the middle reaches of Houtu River, controlling a drainage area of 15,900 square kilometers, which accounts for 68% of the area of the mountainous region.
