Introduction

The Longjin Wind and Rain Bridge, located in Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County, Hunan, is the largest Dong village wind and rain bridge in the world and has also been recognized by the Shanghai World Guinness Record. Originally built in the 19th year of the Ming Dynasty (1591), the bridge has undergone more than 400 years of historical changes. It is a major transportation hub in the Zhijiang area and a place for Dong and Miao people to cross the river, seek shelter from the rain, entertain, and chat. However, during the Anti-Japanese War, the National Government demolished the galleries and pavilions on the bridge, transformed it into a highway bridge, and added pedestrian walkways. As the Zhijiang Airport was the main military supply base at that time, and the Longjin Wind and Rain Bridge was the most important military supply line in southwest China, it became the main target of Japanese bombing and was almost bombed every week. Despite this, the bridge still stood strong, ensuring the travel of our army and people. On August 21st, 1945, the Longjin Wind and Rain Bridge witnessed the historic moment of Zhijiang's surrender. Now, the entire bridge has been modernized, with many elements reflecting Dong architectural art and modern garden architectural style. The bridge not only preserves the architectural cultural heritage of the Dong village, but also reflects contemporary architectural art style.
