Introduction

Manla Reservoir is a large-scale water conservancy project located in Longma Township, Jiangzi County, Shigatse, Tibet, on the upper reaches of the Nianchu River. The reservoir is mainly used for irrigation and power generation, as well as flood control and tourism. The dam is a clay-core rock-fill dam measuring 287 meters long, 76.3 meters high and 10 meters wide at the top. It is known as "the first dam in Tibet" due to its enormous size. The reservoir is 28 kilometers away from the county seat and 113 kilometers away from Shigatse city. The Manla Project is a grand (Ⅱ) type project, and it is the headword project on the Nianchu River. The elevation of the reservoir area is between 4200 and 4300 meters, with extremely low winter temperatures and harsh construction conditions due to the lack of oxygen in the dry air. The actual construction period is only 7 to 8 months per year.
