The Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains is one of the main mountain ranges of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, crossing the central and eastern parts of Tibet. Its main peak, Nyenchen Tanglha Peak, has an altitude of 7,111 meters. To the northwest of the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains is Lake Namtso, and to the south is the Yangbajain Valley, which is rich in geothermal resources and has many hot springs. According to legend, the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains is the home to the mountain deity that governs the hundreds of Tanglha Mountains that span the northern part of Tibet. It is considered the most important protector deity and is revered by both followers of Bon religion and Buddhism, who believe that this mountain is a sacred place for spiritual practice and gatherings.
