Introduction

Longquan Temple was built in the Song Dynasty and was later rebuilt in the early years of the Republic of China. It has surviving screens, platforms, archways and three courtyards. The most attractive features are the stone archway, Dazhaobi and Puji Pagoda. The stone archway is beautifully carved from the foundation stones to the roof tiles, with various patterns of figures, animals, flowers, clouds and mountains placed in the hall, which are delicate and transparent. It uses various techniques such as round carving, hollow carving, high relief carving and shallow relief carving, demonstrating the craftsman's exquisite artistry. This archway has three doors and six pillars, forming a "one" character shape, and it is said that it took craftsmen six years to build, with 89 realistic dragon and vivid facial expressions of human characters carved on it.
