Xigu Castle is located in the famous historical and cultural town of Nuanquan, and it is a typical "castle within a castle." Xigu Castle was built in the Jin Dynasty, with a moat at the gate. It took its current form during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, and was expanded and renovated in the late Qing Dynasty. It is one of the best preserved ancient village castles in China, and was named "Home of Ancient Folk Customs" by the Hebei Federation of Literary and Art Circles in 2003. The castle combines ancient castles with ancient opera houses, temples, and residences.
