Introduction

The Chuxiong Museum is located outside the south gate of Chuxiong City, with an area of nearly 60 acres and a building area of 11,200 square meters. There are 12 exhibition halls in the museum, including the orderly hall, paleontology hall, historical relics hall, ethnic hall, Communist Party Chuxiong Prefecture local party history hall, calligraphy and painting hall, and plant and animal specimen hall, with a total exhibition area of over 7,000 square meters. The museum houses more than 8,400 precious cultural relics and exhibits various treasures such as Lufeng dinosaur fossils, Lufeng Lamma ancient ape fossils, Yuanmou ape-man teeth fossils, and Wanjia Copper Drum. In addition, the museum displays ethnic handicraft embroidery, Yi costumes, Yi solar calendar, calligraphy, oil painting, Chinese painting, murals, paper-cut art, and more, reflecting the unique charm of Chuxiong's historical culture. The museum was opened to the public on July 21, 1995 and is a must-visit attraction for understanding the history and culture of Yi Prefecture.
