Departing from Hangzhou, it takes 1.5 hours to reach the treasure trove ancient towns around Huangshan! These off-the-beaten-path attractions are the key to upgrading your moments on social media!

Huangshan Mountain needs no further introduction. It is worth visiting all year round. In addition, there are many ancient towns and villages around Huangshan, most of which are less crowded and have beautiful scenery, like a real paradise.

Hongcun

This is a ancient town hidden in the "Peach Blossom Spring Residence", famous at home and abroad because of the Oscar-winning film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". But more people know it as the "village in Chinese paintings". The beauty of Hongcun lies in its nature, with endless drizzles and wet spring mud, and the sound of birds can be heard through the mist. Willow trees and smiling peach blossoms, singing while passing the painting bridge in the west. The charm of Hongcun lies in its representative Huizhou-style architecture, towering horsehead walls, clear lotus-filled lakes, and arched bridges like rainbows, as if a painting has entered the hearts of many people.
Nanping Village is a large ancient village with a history of over a thousand years. It has over 300 ancient Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings, 36 wells, 72 alleys, and several ancestral halls, known as the "Museum of Ancient Ancestral Halls in China". It was also the filming location for the movies "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Curse of the Golden Flower". It is a one-hour drive from Huangshan City and offers plenty of attractions to explore, making it worth spending 1-2 days there.

Guanlu Village

Guanlu is located 2 kilometers west of Nanping. Situated at the foot of Wutingshan and Xiwuling, the village is named after the Xiwuling, which is known as the "Xiwu Xiongguan". The ancient village is filled with well-preserved and strategically placed ancient buildings, exuding a sense of desolation that brings about a genuine and worthwhile reminiscence.
Lucun is also part of Hongcun Town, only over 1000 meters away from Hongcun. It is less famous than Hongcun, but it is more pristine, and on a clear day, you can see misty clouds. Its most distinctive feature is the wooden carving building, built by Lu Bangxie, a fourth-rank court official during the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty. It mainly consists of Zhicheng Hall, Sizhi Hall, and Sicheng Hall.
XieLi is located opposite the main entrance of Hongcun Village and can be reached by crossing the road. In spring, you can walk among the beautiful scenery of rapeseed flowers and peach blossoms, while in autumn, you can see a picture composed of red, green, and yellow colors. In addition, there is a sightseeing path on the mountain, where you can have a distant view of Hongcun. After crossing the mountain, you can reach Tachuan. It takes about half an hour to walk from XieLi to Qishu Lake (lower stream of Nanhu).

Tachuan

Tachuan Village, also known as Tashang, belongs to Hongcun Town, Yixian County. Located on the way from Hongcun to Muk

Xiuli

Xiu Li Village has 109 households and 365 people, covering an area of 106 hectares, including 91.3 hectares of forestry, fruit trees, mulberry, and tea. It is a picturesque ancient village with convenient transportation and communication and a beautiful natural ecological environment. Perhaps within a few steps, "Tongfu Inn" hides beside the old street. However, Xiu Li's beauty is not only because of "A Touch of Zen". The village, built near the water, with weathered horse head-shaped walls, exudes a serene beauty. Moreover, over a hundred famous films and TV series such as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Ju Dou," "Xiao Hua," "Love in a Fallen City," and "The Orphan of Anyang" have been filmed here.

Xidi Village

Xidi and Hongcun are equally famous, with Hongcun known for its water scenery and Xidi known for its architecture. It has the most well-preserved group of Huizhou-style buildings, which were listed as a World Heritage Site in 2000 and recognized as "the most beautiful village in the world." The intricate brick carvings, stone carvings, and wood carvings on the buildings showcase the former glory of the homeowners.
Zuyuan Village is nestled on the slopes of Chajiaojian Mountain at an elevation of 685 meters. The village boasts excellent ecological conditions, with flowing springs, waterfalls, traditional white walls and black tiles, and an ancient Hui-style charm. It is home to historical and cultural landmarks such as ancient bridges, old houses, and ancient trees, most notably the thousand-year-old redwood trees. Additionally, the village features over 100 acres of terraced fields, making it one of the top photography spots in Huangshan City.

Mount Qiyun

Qi Yun Mountain Scenic Area, also known as Bai Yue Mountain, faces Huangshan to the north and south. It is named after the highest peak, Langya, which "pierces the sky and is parallel with the clouds". The scenery is famous for its unique mountains, beautiful waters, strange rocks, and quiet caves. It is known as the "Huangshan is the top, Bai Yue is the best in Jiangnan" and Emperor Qianlong called it the "unparalleled scenery in the world, the number one mountain in Jiangnan".
Chengkan is known as the first village in Jiangnan. It may not have the same popularity as Hongcun, but it is larger in size and offers a high level of playability. It is worth staying overnight. The village is also called Bagua Village, with a layout based on the Yin and Yang Eight Diagrams. It has three-story buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as rare architecture from the Song and Yuan dynasties. The scenery is extremely beautiful, with a lake and bridges at the entrance, white walls and black tiles, and the original flavor of an ancient village. The ancestral hall in the village is a must-visit.

Tang Mo

Known as the "number one village at the mouth of Chinese water," the village is built along the water and nestled against it. It is relatively small and fortunately doesn't attract many tourists. The most famous ancient building in the village is Tangan Garden, where one can also see genuine calligraphy inscriptions by many famous calligraphers such as Su Shi, Zhu Xi, and Wen Zhengming.
