Introduction
Besakih Temple, built in the early 11th century, is the oldest and largest Hindu temple in Bali. It is also the headquarters of all Hindu temples in Bali and is known as the "Mother Temple of a Thousand Temples". The temple complex is composed of over 30 separate temples and is of grand scale. The temple regularly holds religious ceremonies, which can be a memorable experience if encountered. However, tourists are not allowed to enter the inner sanctuaries, so it is advised to firmly decline any demands for high fees from locals or choose not to respond.
