Introduction

At the southern end of Durbar Square, one of the most interesting attractions in Bhaktapur, you will see many pottery families. Men stir and mold pottery, while women and children decorate and lay out the finished products. The square is filled with various freshly made pottery, all made from clay about five or six meters deep in the ground. This traditional pottery-making technique has been continued on this square for nearly 1,300 years. Today, local potters still make pottery by hand, with water storage containers being the most common because they are a necessity in the daily lives of Nepalese people. At this site, you can not only appreciate the beauty of art, but also witness the practical application of pottery in daily life.
