Introduction

The Bajau people of today no longer live on boats. Most of them live along the coastal shores or in houses built on shallow reefs. However, they still adhere to the traditional customs of loving the ocean and considering it their home. Every April, a boat race called the "Lepa Regatta" is held in Semporna. Traditional boats decorated with lepa and junkong compete for prizes. If you happen to be passing by Semporna during that time, you can join in the event. Additionally, there is an iconic mosque in the town with green trimmed walls and white exterior, creating a distinct and holy beauty.
