Introduction

Mantanani Island, also known as Mermaid Island, is about a 30-minute boat ride from Kota Kinabalu. It consists of three small islands and is known for its tranquil beauty. The island is a protected marine conservation area, allowing only non-polluting water activities such as snorkeling or diving. It offers pristine white sands, the rich cultural heritage of the Bajau Laut people, and swaying coconut trees. Despite its allure, Mantanani Island remains relatively unknown to many. Due to daily visitor limits, it is recommended to make reservations in advance.

Mermaid Island is suitable for snorkeling all year round, but the best season is from April to September, while November to February of the following year is rainy season with heavy rainfall, which should be avoided.
Transportation
It can be reached by renting a boat from Sabah or Kota Kinabalu, which takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Alternatively, it can be reached by taking a speedboat from Kundasang town, which takes approximately 35 minutes.
