Introduction

Meishan Reservoir is located on the Shih River, upstream of South Huai River, between Da Meishan and Xiao Meishan in Meishan Town, Jinzhai County, Anhui Province. It is 130 kilometers north of the entrance of Shih River into Huai River. Meishan Reservoir is a large-scale water conservancy and hydroelectric project aimed at flood control, irrigation, and electricity generation. The reservoir started water storage in 1958 and has been regulating water for many years. Its flood control capacity reaches 1.065 billion cubic meters, and it can irrigate 255.3 thousand hectares of land. It is also equipped with a total installed capacity of 4×10 MW. Moreover, Meishan Reservoir is located in the southern part of Jinzhai County, known as the "homeland of the Red Army and the cradle of generals", with excellent geographical location. The construction started in March 1954, and the main arch dam was basically completed in January 1956.
