Introduction

Longquan Temple in the eastern part of Qianshan Beigou is one of the five major Zen temples in Qianshan and also the largest existing Buddhist temple. The environment of the temple is unique, with strange peaks, verdant ancient pine trees, a long history, appropriate architecture, and a harmonious blend of natural scenery and layout. According to legend, there are four explanations for the origin of the name "Longquan": the spring water gushing out of a crevice in front of the Vihara twists and turns like a dragon, hence the name; the central spring water in the temple never stops flowing, as if the dragon is spitting water, hence the name; the temple faces Mount Zhao and is backed by Mount Qing, with the green dragon on the left and the white tiger on the right, and the source of the spring water is in the small mountain range on the north side of the Buddha Hall, thus the mountain and the spring are named Longquan; Tang Taizong once stopped at Qianshan during his campaign in the northeast and got the name from relying on this water.
