Introduction

The name of Niubeishan (Cow Back Mountain) comes from the giant stone on the cliff resembling a cow's head and the shape of a cow's back on the ridge. As it overlooks numerous peaks and mountain ranges, Niubeishan is called "the largest observation deck in China". On Niubeishan, the sea of clouds is dense and continuous, and the spectacle of waterfall clouds reminds people of "Hallelujah Mountain" in the movie Avatar, as if walking in the sky. From the mountaintop, you can see the panoramic view of the king of Sichuan Mountains, as well as the beautiful scenery of other famous mountains in the land of abundance, such as Mount Emei, Mount Siguniang, and Mount Erlang. If lucky enough, you can also see the beautiful scenery of the sun shining on the Golden Mountain. On Niubeishan, there are many large tents built by Tibetans for the convenience of tourists to stay, although the conditions on the mountain are harsh. However, if you want to go to Niubeishan, you must inquire about whether you can drive in the mountain area in advance with the accommodation inn. When the snow on the mountaintop accumulates and freezes, the vehicle will stop at "Yunhai Renjia" and then you need to walk for 2 to 3 hours to reach the mountaintop.

Transportation
Niubeishan is located in Piaorugou, Sanhe Township, Yingjing County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, about 180 kilometers away from Chengdu. To get to Niubeishan, one can take a car from Chengdu and first arrive at the foot of the mountain in Ya'an or Lengqi town, and then choose to drive, hike, or rent a car to go up the mountain. However, Ya'an and Lengqi town are the hubs of different routes, Sanhe Township and Lengqi town are the foothills of the east and west sides of Niubeishan, and Jiaxin Garden is the convergence point of three routes. By car, one can take the following routes: Chengdu-Lengqi town and Lengqi town-Niubeishan. To reach Lengqi town, one can take a bus from Chengdu New South Gate Bus Station to Hailuogou, departing at 9:30 every day, with a ticket price of about 135 yuan/person. Before boarding, one needs to tell the driver to stop at Lengqi town. For the trip from Lengqi town to Niubeishan, one can choose to rent a car or hike, with a round-trip fare of about 1,300 yuan and a travel time of about 4 hours. As the road to Niubeishan is bumpy and difficult, it is recommended to take motion sickness medicine in advance. For self-driving, there are two routes: Chengdu-Yingjing (expressway)-Siping (national road)-Sanhe Township-Niubeishan (mountain road) and Chengdu-Ya'an-Gangu di-Lengqi town-Zhuanwachang-Meiping-Yunhai Renjia-Niubeishan. Due to poor road conditions, it is recommended to drive an off-road vehicle or a car with a high chassis. From December to March of the following year, it is the winter control period of Niubeishan, during which the road to Niubeishan is closed in Sanhe Township. Renting a car can either be from the foot of the mountain or from Chengdu. Currently, the round-trip price for Lengqi town is around 1,200 to 1,500 yuan/car. The round-trip fare for renting a car from Chengdu to Lengqi town is about 2,000 yuan/person, with a capacity of 8 people.
