Shangli Ancient Town is located in the northern part of Ya'an. It was an important transit point for the Red Army during the northward journey of the Long March, and also served as a key relay station for the ancient path leading to Ya'an along the "Southern Silk Road". Shangli features picturesque landscapes with mountains, water, terraced fields, and wooden houses. The town still preserves many well-preserved stilted buildings in the Ming and Qing architectural style, as well as various ancient and modern arch bridges. Famous attractions include the "Shuangxiao Festival" Archway, Han Family Courtyard, and White Horse Spring. Shangli Ancient Town is not heavily commercialized and relatively quiet with fewer visitors.
