Introduction

Huayan Temple was built in the seventh year of Liaozhongxi and is divided into two courtyards, connected by a moon gate. The most famous building in the upper courtyard is the Great Hall of the Mahavira, which is the largest surviving Buddhist temple from the Liao and Jin dynasties in China and contains ancient relics. The lower courtyard contains numerous Liao dynasty statues, among which the "smiling Buddha" statue is the most famous, also known as the "Eastern Venus" by Guo Moruo. Other buildings and statues in the temple are also extremely valuable cultural relics of ancient Chinese architecture and Buddhism.
