Introduction
Lu Shan White Deer Cave Academy in Jiangxi is one of China's four great academies, alongside the Yuelu Academy in Changsha, Hunan, the Shigu Academy in Hengyang, Hunan, and the Yingtian Academy in Shangqiu, Henan. Built in 940 AD, the academy is located southeast of Wulao Peak and has experienced ups and downs over the centuries. It was founded in the Tang dynasty, flourished in the Song dynasty, and remained prosperous during the Ming and Qing dynasties. During the Southern Song dynasty, Zhu Xi rebuilt the academy and personally taught there, ensuring its continued development.
Today, the buildings of the White Deer Cave Academy are connected along Guandao Creek from west to east, comprising the academy gate, Ziyang Academy, White Deer Academy, and Yanbin Hotel. These buildings all face north and south, and are made of stone or wood and brick. The roofs are shaped like a hard mountain peak and give off an elegant and simple flavor, making the academy truly unique.
