Introduction

Located 11 kilometers southeast of Zedang Town, the Yongbulakang Palace on Zaxi Ciri Mountain was the first palace in Tibetan history, with a history of over 2,100 years. It is named after the mountain's shape resembling a mother deer's hind legs, with the temple seated on the deer's leg. "Yongbu" refers to the mother deer, "la" refers to the hind leg, and "kang" means palace. Although small in scale, it stands tall on the mountaintop, offering a spectacular view of the Yarlung Valley and the countryside. According to legend, Princess Wencheng lived here with Songtsen Gampo during every summer after she married him and came to Tibet. About 400 meters northeast of Zaxi Ciri Mountain is a spring called "Gyal Quen," which flows continuously throughout the year and is said to be able to cure various illnesses. Many people who come to worship at Yongbulakang Palace like to drink and bathe in the spring, enjoying its coolness and miraculous healing powers.
