Introduction

The Ailao Mountain Tea-Horse Ancient Road, located in Xiping County, has a dangerous terrain, surrounded by mountains and waters, with steep peaks and ridges, and is known as a "difficult to enter by one, impossible by ten thousand" strategic location. It is a section of the Yinan Road, which started in Puer in the Tang Dynasty, crossed the Ailao Mountain to reach Dali, and began in Kunming after the Ming Dynasty, leading to Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and other places, reaching its peak in the Qing Dynasty. The former horse-caravans and merchants transported all kinds of goods from the Central Plains to the border areas through this road, giving the Ailao Mountain Tea-Horse Ancient Road a history of more than 1,300 years. Today, the ancient road is unique, and the most attractive sights are the remnants of the Qianjiazhai site, the stone arch of the ancient road post's iron smelting furnace, and the hoof marks preserved on the blue stone slabs. These precious relics witness the history of the ancient trade in southern Yunnan and record the legendary stories about the caravans. Today, although the Ailao Mountain Tea-Horse Ancient Road is quiet, it still maintains its long history and peaceful natural scenery.
