The ancient city wall of Zhaoqing has a circumference of 2800 meters. It has undergone more than 20 repairs throughout history, but the position of the wall and city gates remain unchanged. The city wall, originally built in the Song Dynasty, is still intact, which is rare in the country. Piyun Tower is located in the western section of the ancient city wall. It was built in the third year of the Northern Song Dynasty and is still well-preserved. It is named after its location at the highest point of the city wall, where clouds often surround it, hence its name "Piyun Heltear". It is one of the Eight Ancient Scenic Spots of Duanzhou.
