Introduction

Kaikoura is a scenic and historically significant area that originally attracted Maori people due to its abundant flora, fauna, and marine resources. Later, Europeans came to develop and export large quantities of gold, cattle, and sheep to the rest of the world. Nowadays, Kaikoura primarily focuses on eco-tourism, while still maintaining its traditional farming and fishing industries. Starting from Invercargill, heading towards the coast, there are several attractions along the way, such as beautiful beaches, petrified wood, and penguins. There are plenty of options for food and accommodation, and more information can be obtained at the information center. The entire route is suitable for self-driving, but those without a car can also try hitchhiking.
