Introduction

The Atlanta Zoo is an accredited animal park by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Established in 1889, it has become one of the oldest cultural tourist attractions in Atlanta and one of the most experienced members of the American Association of Zoos. The zoo is home to over 250 species and more than 1,300 animals, including one of the largest populations of gorillas in any park in the United States. Additionally, the zoo is one of four in the United States that houses giant pandas.
