Introduction
At the end of 2011, the Buddha Memorial Center in Foguangshan was completed. The establishment of the center originated in 1998 when Master Hsing Yun went to Bodh Gaya, India, to teach the International Threefold Great Ordination. In gratitude for Foguangshan's longstanding promotion of cultural exchange between Han and Tibetan Buddhism, Lama Gonggar Dorje Rinpoche of Tibet established the China Tibetan Culture Association, held the World Buddhist Conference on Exoteric and Esoteric Buddhism, and created the International Buddha's Light Association and other organizations. He presented the relic of the Buddha's tooth that had been guarded for nearly 30 years and hoped that Foguangshan could build a Buddha Memorial Center in Taiwan to express gratitude.
