Introduction
The University of Hong Kong, also known as HKU, is located in Pokfulam on the western half of Hong Kong Island. It is a government-funded research university and was established in 1911 during the colonial era, making it one of the earliest higher education institutions in Hong Kong. As the only university in Southeast Asia, it has always been supported by the British government. The Hong Kong College of Chinese Medicine also became an important part of the medical school at HKU, along with the faculties of arts and engineering, forming the three major faculties during its inception. However, the university experienced significant disruptions during the Japanese occupation. After the war, the university continued to grow and established many new departments and faculties. Currently, HKU has ten academic faculties, maintaining the tradition of English-medium instruction. HKU has not only produced numerous prominent figures in society but also consistently ranks among the top three universities in Asia according to QS and Times Higher Education rankings.
