Introduction

The police station of Yau Ma Tei Division, West Kowloon Regional Headquarters of the Hong Kong Police Force has been classified as a Grade III historic building by the Antiquities Advisory Board. The building is in the Edwardian style, designed to showcase the authority of the police force. The three-story building has wings in a hook-shaped structure. The upper floors of the old wing originally had open corridors supported by granite pillars, but these spaces have now been enclosed and used as rooms. The interior floors are made of teak and western-style elements decorate the walls. The central top floor room of the hook-shaped structure has a ceiling height of over ten feet, and is considered the best banquet hall and dormitory. The entrance of the police station faces the junction of Yung Fung and Canton Road, and the zigzag shape is said to be closely related to feng shui. The old wing of the police station has been renovated, with some of the gold-shaped roofs changed to flat ones. Yau Ma Tei police station has gained widespread fame due to its frequent use as a filming location for Hong Kong movies and TV dramas, attracting many fans to come and take photos in front of it.
