Introduction
Golden Bauhinia Square in Hong Kong is located in the northeastern part of Wan Chai, on the artificial island of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is part of the waterfront garden and is close to the temporary Wan Chai Waterfront Garden and Victoria Harbour. The square is a part of the expansion project of the Convention and Exhibition Centre after the return of Hong Kong to China. In recent years, Golden Bauhinia Square has become one of the must-visit tourist attractions in Hong Kong for some mainland Chinese tourists.
On July 1, 1997, the Chinese central government presented a gilded copper sculpture called "Forever Blooming Bauhinia" to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government. The sculpture was installed in the new wing of the Convention and Exhibition Centre, and the unveiling ceremony was presided over by the then Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa and Vice Premier Qian Qichen. The sculpture symbolizes the everlasting prosperity of Hong Kong. It is 6 meters tall, weighs 70 tons, and is made of bronze with a gold leaf coating. The base is a cylindrical square with a design of the Great Wall, symbolizing the embrace of China for Hong Kong. Address 1 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
