Introduction

July 1, 1997, was an important day for the return of Hong Kong to China. On that day, the handover ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The convention centre is a remarkable building located by Victoria Harbour, with its design resembling a soaring bird and a modern glass exterior. On the Golden Bauhinia Square outside the convention centre, there is a large sculpture named "Forever Blooming Bauhinia", which was a gift from the central government to the Hong Kong SAR government as a commemoration of the return. In addition, the "Monument to the Return of Hong Kong to China" is also a popular attraction for tourists, with the front inscription bearing the handwritten name of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
