Introduction

Jantar Mantar is derived from the Hindi language, meaning "instrument for calculation," and refers to the ancient Indian facilities used for astronomical observations. These observatories were constructed during the Mughal Empire, with the Jantar Mantar in Jaipur being built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. Their architectural design is unique, resembling functional sundials. Apart from the Jantar Mantar observatory in Delhi, there are also observatories in various other Indian cities such as Jaipur, Varanasi, Mathura, and Ujjain.
