Introduction
In the year 1567, during Japan's Warring States period, the feudal lord Oda Nobunaga exiled the previous lord of Inuyama Castle, Sakai Ryūō, and built Gifu Castle on the summit of Mount Kinka as his base for unifying the country. On the western foot of the ruins of the Gifu Castle Residences, there are 2-3 layers of terraces, which are believed to be the remains of Oda Nobunaga's residence. According to Luis Frois, a Portuguese missionary, in his book "History of Japan," the residence was a four-story building. The first floor was a spacious hall, similar to a stage. The second floor was the living room for family members, and the third floor was a quiet room suitable for drinking tea. From the fourth floor, one could overlook Gifu Castle. To this day, the roads and walls built with huge stones are still preserved at the ruins of the residence within Gifu Park. Transportation From JR Gifu Station or Meitetsu Gifu Station, take a bus heading towards Gifu "N80 Takatomi" or towards Nagara Bridge, or take a bus that goes in the counterclockwise direction on the "Inner City Loop", which costs 200 yen for a one-way trip and takes about 15 minutes. Get off at the "Gifu Park/Historical Museum" bus stop and it's just a 1-minute walk.
