Introduction

The Basilica di Santa Maria Novella, which can be seen as soon as you leave the train station, is the first cathedral in Florence. The upper half of the black and white marble façade was completed by the architect Alberti in the 15th century, complementing the Gothic architectural style of the lower half. It is a beautiful sight against a blue sky and white clouds.
