Introduction
The Ashoka Pillar, excavated by Indian archaeologist Mukherjee in 1896 in Lumbini, is about 6 meters tall and 45 centimeters in diameter. It bears the inscriptions of Emperor Ashoka's edicts, confirming the visit of the Maurya dynasty to the birthplace of Buddha for worship. The discovery of this important historical artifact owes much to the account in Xuanzang's "Records of the Western Regions" It is a true and meaningful piece of history that deserves our understanding and appreciation.
