Introduction

Jagannarayan Temple, one of the oldest temples in Patan Durbar Square, was built in the 16th century and is dedicated to the deity Vishnu. It was guarded by two large stone lions on the steps and featured erotic carvings on the pillars, contrasting with the adjacent Hari Shankar Temple. Unfortunately, this site was severely damaged during the 8.1 magnitude earthquake in Nepal on April 25, 2015. The temple has collapsed completely.
