Introduction
Lahore Fort, originally built in 1021 AD, is a historical fortress in Lahore, Pakistan. It was reconstructed as a military stronghold by Emperor Akbar in 1566 to defend against foreign invasions. The fort has been expanded and renovated by successive emperors, including the addition of gardens and pools. Emperor Shah Jahan, grandson of Akbar, transformed the original red sandstone walls into white marble and constructed magnificent structures like the Sheesh Mahal and Diwan-e-Aam.
Today, Lahore Fort is renowned for its stunning Mughal architecture and is often referred to as the "heart of Pakistan". It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.
