The Dongdu Garden is located at the intersection of National Highway 204 and Provincial Highway 338 in Tangqiao Town. It is the place where the eminent monk Jianzhen successfully set sail for Japan for the sixth time in the Tang Dynasty in 753 AD. It was formerly known as Huangsipu. According to the "Shazhou County Annals": "After five consecutive failures of the Tang Dynasty eminent monk Jianzhen's attempts to sail to Japan, he successfully set sail for the east at Huangsipu for the sixth time." In 1963, the 1200th anniversary commemoration committee of Master Jianzhen's passing set up a stone monument at the mouth of Huangsipu, attracting Japanese visitors to pay their respects. The Dongdu Garden consists of the Dongdu Memorial Hall, Dongdu Bridge, stone pavilion, and scripture pagoda. The park highlights water landscapes and embodies the pastoral scenery of the Jiangnan water town. The main building in the garden, the "Jianzhen Dongdu Memorial Hall," covers an area of 2,400 square meters with a building area of 1,070 square meters. The plaque was inscribed by Zhao Puchu, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of the Chinese Buddhist Association. The main hall houses a bronze statue of Master Jianzhen and has seven murals depicting the arduous journey and biography of Master Jianzhen's successful sixth voyage to Japan. On the wall behind the main hall, there are six wooden screens with woodcuts, containing excerpts from the "Record of the Eastern Expedition," which records Master Jianzhen's experience of his sixth voyage to Japan. On both sides of the main hall, there are exhibits of artifacts such as stone tools, pottery, and red pottery unearthed from the Lu Yuan Xujiawan and Xuzhuang Neolithic sites, as well as some materials, books, photos, and commemorative items donated by Japanese friends related to Master Jianzhen.
