Introduction

Mount Longhu Scenic Area is a region covering an area of about 220 square kilometers and is a typical Danxia landform landscape in China. This scenic area is a world geopark and national natural and cultural double heritage site, as well as the birthplace of Taoism, a national-level scenic spot, a AAAA-level national tourist attraction, a national forest park, and a national key cultural relic protection unit. In 2007, Mount Longhu became a part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network. In addition, Mount Longhu is also an important origin place of Chinese Taoism and is listed as a national key scenic spot. Mount Longhu is also one of the core areas of the Chinese Danxia project. It was recommended to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre in 2009 and became the only Chinese application project for World Heritage status. On August 1, 2010, at the 34th World Heritage Congress held in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, "China Danxia" was added to the World Heritage List, marking Mount Longhu as the eighth natural World Heritage site in China. In 2009, Mount Longhu also won the "China's Favorite Tourist Attraction for College Students" gold award.
