Introduction

Qaidam is not only a world of salt (mostly salt lakes and marshes in the southeast), but also has abundant reserves of oil, coal, and various metal minerals, such as the oil in Cold Lake, coal in Yuca, and lead-zinc deposits in the Xitishan area. Therefore, the Qaidam Basin is known as the "Treasure Basin".

"The Qaidam Basin has convenient transportation with three national highways as the main arteries, connecting the surrounding areas. The 109 National Highway starts from Xining, runs along the south side of Qinghai Lake, passes through Chaka and Golmud, climbs Kunlun Mountains to the south, and finally enters Tibet. The 315 National Highway crosses the entire Qaidam Basin, starting from Xining, passing through Delingha, traversing the southern part of the Devil's City, and ending at the westernmost part of Qinghai Lake. The 215 National Highway starts from Golmud, heads north and intersects with the 315 National Highway, passes through Da Qaidam, and finally enters Dunhuang."
