Introduction
Gualing Village was established in the Ming Dynasty and was named Gualing Village because of its large-scale melon cultivation. There are two unique watchtowers in the village, one in the front and one in the back, which were funded and built by overseas Chinese in Gualing Village during the Republican era. They played a role in defending against bandits and were also used during the resistance against Japan; bullet holes can still be seen on the walls. Gualing Village in Zengcheng has a history of over 500 years and is the only water-based Qing Dynasty architectural residential cluster in Guangzhou, with typical Lingnan water village style.
