Introduction
- Basong Lake, also known as the "Green Water" in Tibetan, is a famous lake in the Red Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Every year on April 15th of the Tibetan calendar, which is around June 1st, many locals come to worship.
- On the Zaxi Island in the middle of Basong Lake, tourists can take sightseeing boats to visit. The Tsophug Gompa on the island was built in the late Tang Dynasty and is a famous Red Sect temple in Tibet. The wooden carvings on both sides of the entrance are male and female genitals, symbolizing fertility gods and are also the local residents' guardian gods, praying for their own and their family's health and happiness.
