Introduction
Guo Family Courtyard is a typical courtyard-style architecture in Huangyao Ancient Town, built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty and was the ancestral home of General Guo Ziyi. The courtyard occupies an area of about 20 acres, with four gatehouses and gardens and ponds, surrounded by high walls, and has nearly 100 houses. The design of the courtyard is rigorous and ingenious, with each floor interlocking with small and large bricks, which are carefully polished. Legend has it that when the owner built the house, he strictly limited the bricklayers to only make thirty green bricks per day and destroy any excess bricks. This fine craftsmanship makes every green brick uniform in size and deep in color, and the sound of hand-hammering can still be heard today.
