Introduction
Guifeng Tower, located in Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, is built on Guifeng Mountain and faces the confluence of the Dongjiang River and Xinfeng River. Legend has it that a fairy visited this place and was saddened by the plight of the people, so he threw a giant tortoise at the confluence, which became Guifeng Mountain, and built a tower to suppress the water monster. Built in 1132 during the second year of the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty, Guifeng Tower is a hexagonal pagoda that is 42.6 meters high, with seven outer layers and 14 inner layers, alternately bright and dark, ascending like bamboo. The tower has two doors that penetrate through walls both upwards and downwards, and four Buddha niches. The bright layer has one door leading to the platform and five door holes leading to the outside flat railing. The flat tower is built with green bricks, each layer of the tower eaves covered with gray glazed tiles, and bronze bells hanging under the corner beams. After 857 years of wind and rain erosion, the original top of the Guifeng Tower is lost, the platform is buried under accumulated dust, the tower eaves and flat seat collapsed, the tile surface is destroyed, and the original wooden floors of each layer of the tower have also been destroyed. Guifeng Tower is listed as the "first of the eight scenic spots in Heyuan", and is also one of the first batch of key protected cultural relics announced in Guangdong Province, renowned as the "first tower of the Dongjiang River."
