Introduction

The Fossil Forest Scenic Area consists of four parts: Fossil Forest, Shenzhen Paleontology Museum, Hong Kong Return Commemorative Forest, and Peach Blossom Garden. The Fossil Forest, established in 1997, covers an area of 20,000 square meters and collects more than 500 silicified wood specimens from Liaoning, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and other regions. These silicified woods, identified by experts as pine and fir plants, formed during the Mesozoic era from 150 million to 70 million years ago, which was the peak period of conifer evolution. The tall trees were buried underground due to intense tectonic movements and underwent silicification, forming the fossils we see today. To date, this is the only large-scale relocated preserved fossil forest in the world. The Fossil Forest and Paleontology Museum here are great places for people to understand the history of life on Earth. The Paleontology Museum uses fossils, images, multimedia technology, and other materials to explain the history of life on Earth in a systematic and easily understandable way. The enormous size, large quantity, and breathtaking forms of the fossilized wood specimens in the Fossil Forest leave a deep impression.
