Introduction

Located 15 kilometers southwest of Suzhou City, Lingyan Mountain has an elevation of 220 meters and is a mountain peak overlooking Taihu Lake. The temple is built on the mountain top, facing south, offering a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. There are many giant rocks on the mountain that resemble Lingzhi mushrooms, hence the name Lingyan Mountain. The main buildings of the temple include the Maitreya Pavilion, the Great Hall of Buddha, and the Nianfo Hall, all built along the central axis. On the east and west sides, there are long corridors that run through the entire mountain. The east side features buildings such as the Pagoda of Precious Treasures, Zhiji Hall, and Xiangguang Hall, while the west side is mainly a garden. The Pagoda of Precious Treasures is the most distinctive building, standing at 34 meters high with seven levels and eight sides, in the style of a pavilion. The pagoda was built in the second year of Liang Tianjian (503 AD) and was rebuilt in the seventeenth year of the Song dynasty (1147 AD). The current Pagoda of Precious Treasures is a reconstruction based on the original appearance from the Song dynasty.
