Introduction

Muli Monastery was once the religious and political center of the Muli Kingdom in the early 20th century. It was also the largest Gelugpa Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the Kangba Tibetan area. It was damaged in the 1960s and later rebuilt with funding from the government. The current Muli Monastery still retains the traditional Tibetan architectural style with gilded decorations, carved beams and painted rafters, towering golden roofs, and vibrant colors.
